Were not the LHC is not powerful enough to cause a world ending anything. If you build a LHC that stretches around the world 1 or 2 times and also have enough energy to start it up which we wouldn't have that amount we'd kill ourselves via black hole... But the LHC makes mini black holes that pretty much evaporate fairly quickly so yeah
Sarcasm, dyresand. Sarcasm.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

The search words I put on there are VERY VERY NSFW and will almost certainly get you fired. They are also decidedly not for the faint of heart, though they will go some way to desensitising you to the horrors that lurk on the web. Right now, I'm jacked up on energy drinks and so my bucket of fucks to give is even emptier than usual, but I thought I'd put this here to hopefully avoid me getting in trouble here

The topic of this thread has been already addressed in his thread. You don't even have to read through 3 full pages to get to the fact that the LHC is not powerful enough to destroy the world. Even the larger one that was started in the U.S. was not nearly powerful enough to do that. (Maybe that is why the U.S. cancelled the project. )
But if one wants to read about the specifics of what people were afraid of, here are a couple of articles:

Thanks for sharing this!
my main question with this is why christians are freaking out about this and why they think there is a big conspiracy involving CERN, Sept 23/24 and the rapture and the blood moon... im pretty sure I answered my own question with saying conspiracy theory and basically people looking for meaning hard enough and making connections with stuff that would otherwise not mean anything...

christ cards are worried we will find out the earth is not is not flat the sun does not revolve around the earth intelligent design is a load of crap built upon a very orderly complex manner that it would be statistically impossible for one being to be able to maintain order, listen to murmurs from billions of people, reward, punish, answer the murmurs, have conversations with said murmurers...etc
Other than that I am with Pops...I HAVE NO CLUE

You underestimate both the fundie desperation to be terrified of the dark, and the need for the preachers to cling on to their little bit of power. They'll simply move the date of the fapture so it's just out of reach, with just the right amount of weather events as signs, to keep the anxiety levels up.
It's pathetically self-defeating when you consider that rapture retards should be welcoming the end of the world. In fact, they should be on the front lines of making it happen.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
