All Hail the Second Amendment

Reread what I wrote... I agreed with you there. The NRA article confirmed the gist of the article you presented, but was directly from the NRA.

So yes, what the NRA says is the "fucking unvarnished truth" of what the NRA says.

Really?

Read that:

Quote:“There is a place where a lot of people put in boats. They had a rifle they took along in case they saw a wild hog,” he told the Banner-Herald. “Evidently they did this a lot."

They took a loaded rifle when they went fishing frequently?

What the hell.

Maybe they wanted to bring home some bacon too.

And that necessitated unsafe transport of a weapon?

My criticism is of their safety protocols (or in this case, lack thereof).

I agree. Their unsafe transport was stupid.

Brakeman, in the article you posted it said THIS:

Quote:More recently, the NRA has supported legislation to ensure that appropriate records of those who have been judged mentally incompetent or involuntarily committed to mental institutions be made available for use in firearms transfer background checks. The NRA will support any reasonable step to fix America’s broken mental health system without intruding on the constitutional rights of Americans.

The only problem is that Wayne La Pierre - the gun nut in chief - said:

Quote:And last week in a fiery call to arms after President Obama's State of the Union address, LaPierre said that while universal background checks "sounds like a reasonable, good idea," they would be ineffective against criminals who steal weapons or get them on the black market.

"The only people who will be checked are law-abiding, normal, sane, decent Americans," LaPierre said. "It will (be) our names -- the names of good people -- that will be put into a massive database, subject to potential federal registration and abuse of privacy."

So, these fuckers claim to support background checks for nut cases while at the same time trying to scuttle background checks, period.
That's a bit disingenuous, no?

And...here I just can't resist...."The only people who will be checked are law-abiding, normal, sane, decent Americans"

These are the same people who shoot themselves or others while cleaning loaded guns all the time. I guess I lack the confidence in gun nuts that Mr. La Pierre has...

Again, I think you need to reread my comments. I too said the NRA was full of shit for their article.

Your opinion does not matter. The NRA has set itself up as the anointed spokesperson for gun nuts. They bribe the congressmen. They are responsible for the carnage. No one is blaming you.

This is the root of the problem. We could have better laws that would do a much better job of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of criminals and the mentally deficient. Most of the gun owners I know don't have a problem with that. Unfortunately the votes of our elected representatives are for sale. I don't blame the gun lobby including the NRA for that. They aren't doing anything different than every other special interest group does. The real problem lies with the politicians.

Do you have evidence of bribery?

There are many gun owners, possibly the majority, who are not 'gun nuts'.

And the uncle should go to jail.

Just how safe do guns need to be?

OSHA safe?

Guns like any other weapons and explosives are unsafe by their very nature. So how far do we need to go to consider ourselves safe enough with them/from them?

No deaths at all? As safe as knives? As safe as cars?

I'm not trying to stake my opinion here, I'm interested yours.
