Why were these municipalities, so intimate with the need for firearms in a hostile country, so adamant that those arms not be permitted in the public square?

Because they were also intimately familiar with stupid, flawed human beings, the stresses to which said humans are subject and the need to separate those humans from machines which are too powerful and deadly to be allowed to tempt said humans in need of help settling every day beefs.

They knew guns. They knew people. And they knew that, to build and maintain a civilized society where families and businesses can grow and prosper, it's probably a good idea to limit access to these wondrous and terrible machines.

An idea seemingly lost on today's gun nut maniacs.

Couldn't get consistent, effective treatment but could get a gun.

A northern Indiana man has pleaded guilty to criminal charges after killing his fiancee’s 3-year-old son while they were playing a “gun game” in their Michigan City home.

Authorities said Zachariah Grisham, 24, frequently played a game in which he would point a real gun at the boy while child would point an imaginary gun back.

Grisham shot the boy in the head in September 2013. He told police he forgot his gun was loaded and pulled the trigger.

Police in Florida believe a San Carlos Park man fatally shot his three children, his wife and then turned the gun on himself over the weekend.

Lee Sheriff Mike Scott told the Naples Daily News that 36-year-old Sonny Enrique “Quique” Medina left a note before shooting 29-year-old Maria Antonia Navas, 10-year-old Allison Navas, 6-year-old Sophia Medina-Navas, and 2-year-old Mia Medina-Navas early Sunday morning. Scott declined to reveal the contents of the note due to an ongoing investigation.

So, what we seem to have here are a couple of white supremacist, anti-government people who decided to stage an armed revolt against authority. These people delivered exactly what many prominent elements in the Tea Party have been promising and encouraging for years. And that mainstream media, with its "liberal bias", has... said virtually nothing about it. Nor will they.

There is bias in the MSM, all right. It's the bias that identifies the Tea Party as a legitimate political entity.

As a gun owner, I appreciate my Second Amendment right but understand, like many of my other rights, it is not absolute (why can't these people realize this). The people with gun fetishes also conveniently leave out the first part of the Second Amendment: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state,"
I agree with what Bill Maher said Friday night. The people carrying these assault rifles into stores and restaurants are doing more for firearm regulation than lobbying can.
