Seriously, how is anyone dumb enough to be fat?

RE: Seriously, how is anyone dumb enough to be fat?
The very fact that this thread title even exists is an example of one of the things that is fundamentally stupid and awful about our culture. Seriously, Aractus, WTF?!

Not ever going to read anything in this thread, and yet now I have posted in it and it is going to keep showing up at the top of "My posts" every time it is the most recently posted thing in all of "My posts." That sucks. Oh well.

Hey, mods, is there a way that "My posts" could not work like this? Is there a way make a thing disappear from "My posts"? Because MAN, that would be great.

What I've learned so far disturbs me greatly. People are so, so dumb.

I know people who worry about their weight, but don't do anything to change their destructive/unhealthy lifestyles! It's like they never bothered learning nutrition and they don't want to learn it now.

This is what I've learned: people are extremely ignorant. In fact they're so unaware that they try "fad diets" with no concept as to why it would or wouldn't work. They say that they want to lose weight - but don't even bother to make the easy small changes to their eating habits that would guarantee it!!

Like true, I don't really understand how my car engine works and that's why I let a mechanic take care of it - but we're talking about our bodies, how do people not take proper care of their own bodies???

So seriously, how is it that people are so, so dumb??

Are you trying to say that it is naive to say that people are dumb for being religious? If so, then I agree with you.

RE: Seriously, how is anyone dumb enough to be fat?
Okay, so I've learned the definition of "naturally thin people" - or at least a definition: people who eat whatever they want without dieting but don't put on weight.

Reasons: 1. it's 95% to do with their lifestyles, 2. about 10% of thin people have higher metabolism (genetic) to help them.

"Naturally thin" people: don't eat between meals and if they do only small snacks, don't eat more than they need (leave what they don't need on the plate), only eat when hungry, skip meals, some have very bad eating habits, most lead active lifestyles.

Now as I mentioned in my previous reply, some eat very low fat diets or no-fat diets or very high fibre diets and get their energy from sugar or coffee and all of which are downright dangerous lifestyles. Well to put it more precisely - they will result in unwelcome medical conditions like osteoporosis and others.

And some just eat healthy and consume what they need to maintain weight.

Interesting parallels exist between fat folks and religious people. I personally know some fat people and religious people. Hell, I even know a few people who are fat and religious! Saying, "they're just dumb", is a knee-jerk, simplistic, and incorrect response. First of all, I personally know many fat/religious people who are not dumb by any measure. Dumb might apply, if at all, as to why people stay fat or religious, not how they became that way in the first place. Let's examine this interesting subject.

Of course genetics plays an important role regarding our physical attributes and development which can't be said about religion, but for the most part, people aren't born fat, and/or, religious. The reason people get fat/religious, is because of what they're taught by their parents, family, friends, teachers, and their culture. One only need look at a map of the world's religions to see that where you were born has a whole lot more to do with what god or gods you believe in, than, what is "true".

Early on, and throughout their childhood, we reward children constantly and consistently with food and sweets for good behavior. We also withhold it, (go to bed without any supper, no desert for you, etc.) for bad behavior. It's no wonder why many people get, and stay fat. Religion does the same thing, programs us in basically the same way, and is ingrained at a very early age.

We've been hardwired by evolution to crave and enjoy salt, sugar, and fat, (which can be rare in the wild). We also evolved early on, to be very afraid of danger, of bad weather, fires, drought, floods, disease, strangers, and almost every new thing, and to find safety and comfort in the old ways, in our tribal rituals, in the familiar, and in the myths and fables we passed along from father to son, mother to daughter, old to young, allowing religion to flourish.

One thing all religions share is the euphoric rush that overtakes and overwhelms their followers when they're "feeling moved by the spirit of the Lord", or "speaking in tongues", or "taking communion", or "praying to Allah", or "ritual dancing", or in "deep meditation", or when an atheist looks at the night sky and realizes stars had to die, to create the stuff his body, the stuff life, is made of. Often it can resemble group hysteria, or deep, quiet solitude, or a Hindu staring at the sun until blind, or holding an arm up for years.

To someone who doesn't understand, these practices can look real dumb, but they're not, just like the fat person rewarding himself with another fatty, salty, fast food burger and fries because "he deserves a break today", isn't dumb... just brainwashed, conditioned, and a victim of having been evolved as a human, same as the religious folks.

I know exactly how you feel. I was intrigued by the title and then i ended up in the middle of a pointless thread and stopped reading. However i'm now posting on said thread. Strange how these things happens.

Secondly, it interests me, and it is absolutely my business since my tax dollars pay for people who chose to get Type 2 Diabetes, or cause other medical expenditure due to their weight. You forget, I am also a capitalist.

I cannot let this horseshit slide! I too am a capitalist, but far removed from the crap you spew. For one thing, I think it's rapidly becoming apparent our good old economic system, (as you know and love), is going to grind to a halt and cease to exist, probably by the next century. Without going into a lot of detail, let me just state one very simple FACT even you should be able to grasp, (although I have serious doubts you'll be able to grasp the full and inevitable outcome of this fact, if ignored). It is impossible for a finite system, (Earth, our planet), to sustain infinite growth of any kind!

Now, about other people's choices being "your business" because you think it might cost you somehow? Well, I'll tell you what is costing ME, right now, and although I'm pissed about it, I won't hold you personally responsible for it. It's the fucking TAXES your, and every church, have not been paying! So, I am forced to directly subsidize your damn religion! Religion, which I personally believe has plagued mankind with far more evil than good, and done a helluva lot more in damages and costs than all the fat people, blind people, deaf people, handicapped people, dope addicts, and alcoholics who ever existed, COMBINED.

And you have the nerve to bitch about some fat guys eating habit?

Ok so what if I'd asked how is anyone dumb enough to be obese?

Rubbish. The food industry is a highly developed science and processed foods and fast foods are specifically designed to appeal to our taste and convenience - not to our "cravings". Cravings only develop by eating those foods.

No shit. What you think I don't know that? I call it ponzi economics.

That's wrong, we pay required taxes. I'd be more concerned with Apple and other multinationals who are presently avoiding paying almost any company tax. Not to mention that they've been fucking consumers for years here; on the other hand we (Anglicans) provide services to the community. We do more charitable work than any other church or NPO in Australia, and it's probably the same case in the UK and elsewhere.

Now I obviously believe it's in our best interests to provide state healthcare, however I don't believe it's right for people to abuse the privilege by choosing to live an unhealthy lifestyle. Why should people who have made the choice to get obese be given a free ride?

Being obese isn't really that bad. Technically I've heard lot's of health muscular people are obese.
And I'm pretty sure food companies try and consumers crave their foods. Coca cola would probably still put cocaine in their ingredients if it was still legal.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.
