Yes, I have thought about it. I think it's more likely to be an act though because she's happy and respectful about everything, to the point sometimes I think it's ridiculous. It's not that you have to insult people to be genuine, but I think sometimes she hides her real ideas behind this veneer of 'I'm such a nice person,' Even her profile picture is designed to be that way. It seems phony to me. I always accept the possibility I could be wrong.  A forum is a really difficult format to really get a good impression of people. I have a hard time expressing my true self in this format.

Does kingpin's profile picture give you the same impression?

Here is the thing, If I were to invent a way to give a good impression of Catholics to an Atheist forum, I'd pretty much invent Catholic Lady. Now I don't think she's a Poe or anything like that, but I think she hams it up a lot.

I hope I have treated everyone on this forum with respect, that is always my intention. I have always tried to apologise the times I said things which in retrospect were over the line or badly worded. You can be sure I don't mean to upset anyone.

I think on the whole, people who are nice here get treated well by most people. Sometimes someone just takes a dislike to someone else, for whatever reason. It always seems to happen. You can't please everyone.

I actually agree that there are some people on here with an axe to grind with Christianity or religion in general. A couple with quite an impressive set of axes, arranged by colour and sharpness.

What we can take away from this thread, I think, is that few people are truly defined by the beliefs they hold, but by the experiences they've had in life. We are naturally a reactive species, and we are ever so good at tarring groups with the same brush, and drawing imaginary lines that become heavily fortified barricades. It rarely matters what religion we belong to in my experience, because we are all more similar than we like to admit in certain ways.

I can be like that even though I know better. It's just when I hear some of the utterly disgusting defenses I get anger. When someone justifies slavery I get angry, when someone wants to remove scince from schools I get angry, when someone says that women are worth less because a holy book says so I get angry. And when they try to violate the separation of church and state to impose their beliefs on others I get really angry.

CL is a nice person, sure sometimes in the heat of debate even nice people give/recieve insults, but she doesn't deserve to be ridiculed because she doesn't come here to ridicule us.

Just keep in mind, we are lacking any Literalist/Inerranticist, hard core, rigid, inflexible absolute total 100% True Christians here.

As nice as CL is, I'd trade 10 of her for just one True Christian.  The kind that drinks poison, has no doubts at all about anything in the Bible, not a speck of Scripture cherry picking, totally committed to every jot and tittle recorded perfectly as God commanded in the King James 1611 Bible.

As much as I don't agree with their beliefs, I can understand they have good intentions and it takes guts to go around knocking on people's doors.

Having "good intentions" does not justify, to me, the arrogance of knocking on my door, interrupting my personal time and insinuating to me that I'm a terrible, sinful person that can only rectify my life by joining [XYZ] church.

Neither do "good intentions" justify the double standard, as Jenny mentioned, of a theist feeling in-the-right about attempting to convert an atheist's child and then freaking out when an atheist talks to their child.
