For those of you who have made the effort, I certainly appreciate it! It shows you're here to actually talk to us as people as well and not just bang on our heads and try to convert us. For those who never make this effort, it's really hard to develop any kind of relationship. I've noticed these tend to be the same people who rarely joke around and have fun on here. That also makes things really hard.

Look, I'm as guilty as anyone here of throwing bombs and insults when I get bored or frustrated with a member. Honestly, I'm not quite such a prick in my day-to-day life and would welcome opportunities to get to know something about some of our religious members aside from what apologetics they favor and how often they can cite the Bible or Koran.
I've long thought that when it comes to GC, Drich, Chad, and -- yes -- even Randy, I would probably like each of them IRL and would enjoy them a lot more here if they would just for once stop yapping about their faith. There are other things to talk about, after all, and it's good to lighten up occasionally. (Professor gets a pass on the religious talk since he is so delightfully loony. I wouldn't change a thing.) And I liked CL from the start. But as others have said, she's made an effort to become something in our little community other than an antagonist.
Vinegar or honey, theists. Vinegar or honey.
Hats off to you, brotha!
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Careful with the smilies. You might be sending the wrong message.

Maybe I'll take your advice more. I've posted on a few of the 'light hearted' threads - from favorite swear words to fountain pens. But really, I must say that I find them kinda boring. And besides, how are you supposed to convert anyone on a thread about craft beers? :-) I think much of the personal stuff does come up within more serious debate threads. I would say the more recent trend among believers has to been either using real pictures of themselves as avatars and using real names. I've always used my real name, but CL and Kingpin have inspired me to use a photo of myself as well.
I'm glad you did! I always have this thing where I really really wanna see the faces of the people I'm talking to lol. Some people say it's easy for them to forget that it's a real person behind a screen name. I have the opposite problem. I always know it's a person, and I wanna see your freaking face, dang it! Lol.

But as Sheldon Cooper once said, "You can catch more flies with feces, what's your point?"
Lol sorry I had to. But I totally agree with you Crossless. This forum is about having discussions in general. We will always discuss our main topic and points of disagreement, but we are also all people and there is a plethora of topics to engage about regardless of our personal beliefs.
There's no arguing with Sheldon.
Just to add to my point, it's not as if I primarily identify as an atheist, and I don't run around IRL looking for religious arguments -- something that I'm sure would be easy to find in Louisiana. Obviously, I like arguing about religion or I wouldn't be here, but there's so much more to life.
And I didn't mean to omit you, lkingpinl. You're another who has made efforts to present yourself as something other than just another Christian to argue with.

Great! I'm glad to hear it
Good to see what you look like. My avatar is me trying to shave. I am generally fairly introverted but this forum has brought me out of myself.
Once I'm cleaned up and ready to go, I look more like this:
