AF Biggest Loser/Fitness Challenge-May 3 to Whenever We're Not Fat Anymore

Quote: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) spends $25 billion or more a year on subsidies for farm businesses. The particular amount each year depends on the market prices of crops and other factors. Most agricultural subsidies go to farmers of a handful of major crops, including wheat, corn, soybeans, rice, and cotton. Roughly a million farmers and landowners receive federal subsidies, but the payments are heavily tilted toward the largest producers.

We subsidize the over production of carbs and cotton.

Here is the food pyramid we learned ages ago:

And here is the present-day food pyramid:

Can you spot the difference(s)?

One can say that the pyramid on top came by due to lobbying by the cereal producers, or one can say that cereal producers got more subsidies because of that pyramid... I don't know the order of events. But the truth is that cereals got a lot of attention ($$) after WW2 and only recently have they been demoted.... because it's become obvious that the result of following the top pyramid is an obese and unhealthy population.

The difference I noticed was the top pyramid promoted exercise while the bottom one did not.

My personal pyramid looks like this:

Honey, refined Sugars, White Breads, Rice
Pasta, Potatoes, Corn,
Complex Grains and Beans, Milk
Nuts, 90% Chocolate, Cucumbers, Summer Squashes, Cauliflower,
Meats, Eggs, Cheese, Avocados, Olives
Green Veggies, Onions, Sololances

I feel pretty healthy and energetic.

Curious why rice is not the top, smallest part of your diet?

Um, rice is at the top with all the other very high carb foods.  Even Brown rice is pretty high.

Interestingly, asian people who eat a lot of rice tend to not be fat.

I am a self experiment of one.  Rice, Pasta, and baked goods are an instant overnight gain of .5 to 1 pounds for me if I have them two days in a row.  One day is just about .2 tenths of a pound and comes back off quickly.  Two days in a row is sticky. I can get away with more if I'm walking eight hours a day, but except for vacations that doesn't happen.

Surely the worst of all is when you eat less and exercise more and check the scales and you put on three pounds and it's like "WTF?!?!?! I'll keep trying."

There's a lot of moments in life like that aren't there? Those "WTF... ok I'll keep trying" moments. For me that pretty much sums up life in general lol.
