Because your pounding the shit out of your arches when you run, and heels place the weight on your pads and disperse it across your ankles, compressing (but also taking direct pressure off of) the arches.
not that i've ever worn them or anything....... 
This makes sense. I have terribly sensitive arches and often have to roll a frozen water bottle under my feet during the day.
I plan to buy new trail runners next week. Can't afford to, have to anyway.

LFC, you look beautiful! And certainly not 9 months 
I was little like that when I had my oldest. Admittedly, I only gained 13 pounds the entire pregnancy. Only gained 20 pounds with my next born.
