Trump, however, was focusing on the health care aspect provided by the military, claiming that the military could not afford to provide health care benefits for transitioning transsexuals.

And that's complete bullshit for reasons already provided in this thread. The costs involved would be nearly nonexistent in the grand scheme of things, especially when you compare it to the healthcare already provided to troops.

That's why you have to be very emotionally sound and have good mental health before joining. Especially for the most elite jobs.

Understandable. I heard the army can be a little more rough around the edges compared to the air force or navy.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

And could be completely avoided if we simply said you can't transition on the country's dime. Whether or not that's right is an entirely different discussion, but that the option exists completely annihilates the claim that it was about health care costs.

Though I'm certain they do their best to beat insubordination out of most soldiers.

Yes and no. Hormone treatment wouldn't cause any problems. Beyond that though, sure.

Can't hit em anymore, you have to find creative ways to make them hurt themselves.  Ultimately, it works even better - because the act of hurting oneself is a pronounced form of subordination.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I don't know any more.

20+ years ago it used to be that transsexual described people who needed to transition and fully live their lives as the gender that they felt they were. Transvestites were cisgendered men and women who did drag and made themselves up to be a caricature of the opposite sex. Transgendered was an umbrella term for everyone in-between. Which was unfortunate because transsexuality was never about sexuality but gender identity and the term was coined by patriarchal psychiatrists who treated it all as a psychological impairment. They should have coined the term transgendered.

Now it seems transvestites no longer exist and everyone on anywhere on the spectrum is described as transgendered, including transsexuals. Which while makes sense in that it is a continuous spectrum and that the misnomer of being called transsexual is finally dying out, also ignores the fact that those traditionally termed transsexual have very different life experiences to those who merely have a tendency towards gender non-conformity. Trans-men and trans-women now seems to be short hand for FTM and MTF transsexuals.

Yeah, there's a general consensus that AF and Navy are pussies, with a few exceptions. Big Grin

I've known a few great guys who served. Some of them I love. I also know racists, wife beaters, drunks and bullies who served right alongside them. Some of those guys make their way up the ranks. Some of those guys make big decisions about policy in the military. To trust them blindly is folly.
