I think the best argument for a "designer" right now, outside of us being genetically engineered, is the simulation hypothesis. That's still a load of question-begging in my opinion, but at least it doesn’t rely on just pointing at stuff and exclaiming incredulity at the possible effects of natural processes.

Evolution is a designer. Via variation and selection, it serves to favor reproduction and shape things according to environmental conditions. God is not a possible designer candidate until you first prove the existence of God. Design does not require an anthropomorphized designer. Designs appear in clouds, for example, with no more of a designer than uneven heating, evaporation, and other natural causes.
