Sure, sure but can you please tell me if a river can be stopped from merging into the sea?
Have you ever seen that happening?  

The last fifty miles or so of the Colorado river is dry wash much, if not all of the year. Evaporation, irrigation and Los Angeles all taking their toll until the river simple vanishes, far from the ocean it used to flow into.
