So I believe that once you are conscious you are conscious forever. Wherever you go/whatever form you take after you die doesn't matter.

*shrug* And I believe that his highly trained battalion of battle hippopotami were the deciding factor in Alexander's victory at Gaugamela.


While it is true that matter (in whatever form) doesn't 'disappear from existence' the 'you' certainly can. Consciousness is one of the consequences of brain function. When a brain becomes non-functional, consciousness is no more. Someone (I disremember who) put it as 'Consciousness surviving the destruction of the brain is about as likely as 100 mph surviving the crash of the car.'
