Not being a person of colour (unless 'unhealthy pale' is a recognized skin tone), I can't say I've been in Manny's shoes. However, something similar happens quite a lot in NI if you've got a Catholic-sounding surname.
A mate of mine was once pulled over for clipping the kerb on a roundabout. Fair do's so far - it was a Friday night and more than a few people get pulled/stopped if they drive away from a pub. When the peeler looked at his driving license, however, he saw the name 'McLaren' and my friend was detained for four fucking hours while they searched his car, his clothes, and all his gear for guns and explosives. The assumption is that if you've got an Irish surname, then you're a Catholic. If you're a Catholic, you're either a para or in league with them.
