A substance abuse disorder did cross my mind when I read the original post but wanted to wait until you brought it up. Is this the cause of the abuse, the house falling down, the unemployment, the family/friend aversion? When he is sober (and not hungover) does he still display the same behavior (maybe to a lesser extent)?

I got a good idea that he'd blow up and refuse, but has anyone suggested that he have an assessment?
