It's not necessarily that it's so difficult for most given people to come up with... it's more that getting people to enjoy your completely original stuff, let alone getting it to last more than a page of replies, sometimes appears to be an absolute form of art... where a few lines can generate hundred-page-threads... and a bunch of work pretty much just lays there, unexplored.
I certainly struggle to keep pages going on threads. I can't tell you what the right way to do it is...
But I can tell you that a thread already started has a headstart on the pagecount, which may lead to a higher traffic generation
