One could argue that quantum mechanics is meaningless to 99% of the people on this planet, and indeed it probably is. That doesn't stop it from existing or being there, or having an effect. Quantum mechanics can explain things even if people don't understand them, just the same as equality should exist as a social constant even if people don't know about it, or don't care about it, or take shit just so they can get something to eat.
