California Approves Doctor Assisted Suicide

The difference in the law seems to be based on religious ideas about humans having souls and other animals not having souls, so that it is okay to kill other animals, but not people, who should last as long as God wants them to last.  Rather ironically, the people who believe that typically have no objections to doing things to prolong one's life rather than letting nature take its course, but religious people are rarely consistent.

You may now tell me that the UK is full of atheists and such, but they have still been influenced in their thinking from a culture in which Christianity has played a prominent role.  Giving up one part of a religion does not necessarily mean giving up every bit of it.
