Such bans are simply knee jerk legislation with no real reasoning. If you believe "lives will be saved" by such bans - you mark yourself as a ill informed advocate for dumb legislation. Short take - you don't know what you are talking about.

When responding to this thread - it would be nice if you state your "credentials" - so others can judge the legitimacy of your statements.

I have over 50 years of experience with firearms. I qualified expert with both the M16 and 1911a and qualified with the riot shotgun (pass/fail rating) while in the service of the USCG. I have owned 100s of guns, sold 1000s and built several from blank recievers. I have had a concealed carry permit since Sept 13 of 2001 and carried daily without incident.

You would be hard pressed to find a firearm that I could not safely pick up - load and fire - with no instruction at all.

What are your thoughts on magazine capacity limits?

What we need is enforcement of the current laws, and not have stupid ones like this enacted in the first place. This one was biting the turf, I heard from one of my younger sons. Big magazines scare people. When one considers how many people are killed when the murderer has a large capacity magazine, nobody considers the minimal amount of time it takes to eject and insert another, smaller, magazine. I personally consider large capacity magazines unnecessary, tbh.

Credentials? Well, I shot 24 rounds from a .22 rifle in boot camp in the US Navy.  Hilarious I've been shooting firearms since 1967, am a Distinguished Expert with light rifle, and a Certified Firearms Instructor for rifle and shotgun, back from when I was a leader in the BSA, where I counseled boys for those Merit Badges. Never shot or hurt anyone in all that time.

Legislation that can be defeated by tape isn't very well crafted, is what I think.

More security theater for voters - and the best part, you'll never -not- have a reason to stump on more gun laws if you write ones like these. Been shooting for about 30 years I suppose, if we don't count bb guns. Go through alot of rounds every week in fall and winter. Qualified m4, 203, 249, 240, at4, 47at, and the 242 25mm.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The gun nut jobs must be happily stroking their unnecessary weapons.

Big on insults.

Short on qualification.

That all you got?

But will they now be handing out high capacity magazines like candy?

That's important in formation needed to be able to start the standard rant.

As a foriegner I'll sit back and watch this thread out.

My "Experiance" ?

I've held maybe three guns my whole life all while properly supervised. I understand 'Gun safety' rules and behaviour and follw(ed) them.

Been to a shooting range twice. 'Feeling' the black powder cannon discharge was fekkin' aweseom!

So, just a clarifying question, what should the 'normal' amount of rounds be in a weapon?

(Yes, left the terminology vague. Go nuts between pistols, rifles, carbines etc)

Cheers.

Not at work.

Answer - however many it holds.

The capacity of some of my guns -

Savage model 94. (12 gauge) 1 shot. (Not to be confused with a Winchester 94.)

JC Higgins model 20-12. (12 gauge) 5 shots.

Ruger GP-100. (.357) 6 shot.

Beretta model 96. (.40 S+W) 10 shot.

Postal Meter M-1 .30 Carbine. 5 to 30 round depending on magazine.

Bushmaster AR-15 (.223) . 5 to 75 round - depending on magazine.

Bushmaster AR-15 (.450). 5 to 9 round - depending on magazine.

As you can see - there is no "one size fits all". It varies greatly from gun to gun - and even in the same gun of different calibers.

I think high capacity magazines should be banned.  I once tried to lift a copy of 'Modern Bride' unassisted and damn near herniated myself.
