RE: Atheists: If God suddenly made his presence known... would you shit bricks?

Since my last post, I'd thought about the end of Star Trek V.
It was a horrible movie but it did have an interesting point at the end. If "God" were to appear, how would we know it was really God and not just a powerful alien trying to get aboard our star ship?
Star Trek TNG again explored the idea in an episode where "the devil" made an appearance. It turned out she was just a con artist with some high tech flair.
If God were to appear, all we could really be sure of is that a powerful being of some sort has contacted us claiming to be "God". To quote McCoy from that horrid movie, there's no identification badge you can ask for.
Also, you can be sure that if the being introducing itself as "God" would not be accepted by any theist of another religion. If Yahweh-Jesus came down, Muslims would say it was a trick by the devil. If Allah came down, Christians would say it was a trick by the devil. If Nature's God came down and told us all to reject all this nonsense, both Christians and Muslims would say it was a trick by the devil. Any theist would reject any god that doesn't conform to their expectations.
So I guess this is a good question for the theists to answer as well. What if you met "God" and this being told you that you've been following the wrong religion.
