A few weeks ago a guy was shot and killed by NZ police around 15 km from where I live. He fired a shot at a McDonald's and then pointed a gun at the cops in a seeming "suicide by cop" situation.

It took a while for armed cops to respond and they spent quite a bit of time trying to talk him down.

Only a few NZ cops are actually armed.
