Back in... 1979? I got access to the school district's central system via a paper terminal over a 110 baud acoustically coupled modem. High tech shit, that was. But I discovered Hunt the Wumpus and Star Trek and wasted a lot of time and paper on both.
Not long after that the school purchased some Apple II computers and I discovered Alkalabeth, which could be seen as the predecessor to the Ultima series.
It would be a few years after that before I would have access to a DOS PC - first game there was Flight Simulator. As you can imagine, running that on a 4.77 MHz 8088 processor is a far cry from modern flight sims.
I do not understand this post. What is this talk of paper and acoustic modems? Sounds terrifying.
