I don't own any guns and I don't allow them in my personal home. Statistically speaking though, I am more likely to be killed in a car crash than by a gun. I still get in a car all the time without fear, why should I fear guns when they are less likely to cause me harm or death than something I use almost every day? What I do appreciate, unlike most Americans, is living in a freer country than most of the world, but my freedoms are being systematically removed by my government. The right to bear arms is an easy one to take away because it's so simple to stir the pot and tug on heartstrings. I don't argue the government could take me, as an individual down no problem (not that they have any reason to, I follow the law), but they wouldn't be able to take down the whole country should the government do something so egregious as to create that kind of scenario. Unless of course the majority were a bunch of passive, brain dead zombies glued to their phone 24/7 gobbling up everything the media tells them . We already have a budding police state, let's just lie down and make it easy for them why don't we? Shall we also hand over our freedom of speech and right to peacefully assemble while we're at it to make it easier for them? Revoking the right to own a gun is just the first step. After disarming the country and desensitizing them to rights removal, it'll be easy to remove freedom of religion next (hello Christian nation!), freedom of speech, right to peacefully assemble and finally just junk the whole thing and give the government complete control.
Let's also not forget (unlike the UK and AU) we border a crime-ridden country full of unregulated guns that is in close proximity to several other crime ridden countries full of unregulated guns. We have no border protection to speak of and we already know lots of illegal things flow back and forth over said boarder since it's so easy and lucrative to traffic black market goods. We will still have a gun problem, just an illegal gun problem. Finally, we have STILL not addressed the core issue of WHY people kill with guns. You can take away the ability for them to legally purchase guns, but someone so damaged, unstable and deranged they would shoot up a school will still commit horrible acts of violence utilizing the next easiest weapon (because nuts have never built explosives before). I really don't want deranged, aggressive individuals wandering around whether or not they have guns. And I don't think the media turning these loonies into some kind of martyr/hero when they go out in a blaze of glory for other loonies to draw encouragement from is helpful either.
Wouldn't sensible regulations make more sense? You know, raising the legal age to own a gun, mandatory training, insurance, yearly re-liscensing and mandatory psych exams? Oh and to do something about keeping dangerous individuals away from the rest of us (and try to rehabilitate them).
