Here's the bio for the man you're quoting, Kevin Miller, in that 1998 article:

For those who don't know, Huntington is a private Christian fundamentalist university, whose mission statement reads as follows:
How many times do we need to explain to you that these fundamentalist organizations are just "incestuous thought-circles" where everyone goes in with their presuppositions, ignores anything that shows these presuppositions are even potentially false, and then says "yay I found my presuppositions are true!" before repeating them around and around in the same circles until everyone in their circle is convinced that "Everyone" agrees that it's solid scholarship.
I'm not so much surprised that you think citing such material is valid, but I am surprised you'd think it's a solid-enough basis to demonstrate the validity of your ideas to people outside of your incestuous thought-circle community. Like us.

For those who don't know, Huntington is a private Christian fundamentalist university, whose mission statement reads as follows:
Quote:Huntington University is a Christ-centered liberal arts institution of higher education with a strong historic and ongoing relationship with the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, USA. With the conviction that all truth is God’s truth, the University exists to carry out the mission of Christ in higher education.
Through a curriculum of demonstrated academic excellence, students are educated in the liberal arts and their chosen disciplines, always seeking to examine the relationship between the disciplines and God's revelation in Jesus Christ.
The University’s mission will be accomplished as we …
- develop in students a commitment to scholarship that is persistent in its pursuit of truth and sensitive to the concerns of the Christian church, the scholarly and educational community, and the world at large;
- educate students broadly for a life of moral and spiritual integrity, personal and social responsibility, and a continued quest for wisdom;
- equip students for a variety of vocations so that they may glorify the Creator, who charged humanity with the care of his Creation;
- help students develop their abilities for a life of God-honoring service to others and for personal fulfillment.

A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
