Dawkins does seem to have irritating effect on lots of people. For instance in season 6 of "Dexter" there is a character that seems to be based on Dawkins: an outspoken atheist professor that holds lectures on science and against religion. Dexter is listening to the lecture and his inner monologue begins describing the professor as "a self important asshole, but I like him." Then the atheist professor gets killed by some religious person.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
