In other words, you're just assuming things. Also, how many people complained? Two? Fifty? And a 50-48 split really isn't that great of a difference between Dems and Reps either.
The honest answer was already given to you. Predictability.
The overwhelming majority of atheists are glad when churches focus their efforts on helping people. It's a basic value of Secular Humanism.
We don't know that they were Christians, of course... but if you think otherwise, you've A) never met a Christian southern Democrat, since you seem to find the 48/50 split significant in terms of atheism, and 2) you've never met a southern Christian, holy until it concerns their bottom line.

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
