I think this tragedy probably has the same magnitude as 9/11 for Americans. I didn't understand 9/11 back then because I was a kid, but I recall watching it on TV. Now I understand better, I feel scared and shocked even though I'm not French and don't live in France.
Pretty much how I feel too. As I said in a previous post I have strong links to Paris with family, but I dread to think how Parisians and the French in general feel. I feel helpless because there's nothing I can do, but I'm worried about the further implications that might come about as a result.
Think you're right re: 9/11 comparison. I think Parisians have been on edge since Charlie and this coming almost a year later has certainly not helped. Hollande has come out with fighting talk if you've seen his recent speech outside the Bataclan.
