I find evangelist atheists annoying, because I find evangelists of all stripes annoying. I don't mind anyone up front about their faith or lack of faith; I expect honesty from everyone I know. But this idea that atheists must emulate Christians in putting their [lack of] faith into another's face annoy me, because when I thereafter mention my own atheism, I get lumped in with the douchebags.

Fedora is to derogatory as London Broil is to auto repair.
Yeah, I agree with you that lumping people together is a problem. It makes it harder to be taken credibly. It pisses me off that people's reputation will govern whether they're taken seriously. I have 0 respect for that sort of thing, especially if the person in question is really smart. I guess this is why I have such a fascination with criminals and criminal behavior. I've watched so many documentaries about murderers. Doesn't it say something more about a person, to look at them without judgment and actually try to figure out what they're about, instead of making up front judgments? Sorry, this rant may not be relevant to you, but that's been on my mind a lot right now. So again, I have 0 respect for a person who'd generalize an atheist, I guess that's why I have 0 tolerant for theists. I'm probably one of the asshole atheists that people would lump you together with. I just find it too disgusting not to feel some disdain for ignorant, generalizing Christians.
