Yeah, I've seen stories of scammers and I must tell you - they were much more riveting stories than yours... Although admittedly not all of them quite as creepy.
And I still don't understand what kind of a "tactic" I'm supposed to be watching out for? Random people joining online groups and then leaving? What am I supposed to do with that information???
Again, it would have to be a judgment call in context of situation. I think people here have run into people who come across as "out of place" for a first post, even on this website. Can look different even without pictures. You've never run into mail, or a phone call, or even someone on the sidewalk asking you to do something and it simply came off as "something is not right"? Happens all the time. That is the benefit of being skeptical, you don't have to take people's word for it.
