It is remarkably clever. You do not advocate violence against your enemies; you just tell people that your enemies are engaged in a violent struggle against you. What follows is then natural. You fight back.
The gays, they say, are conducting a war against marriage and family. Those who advocate separation of church and state are ‘at war with believers.’
Now with celebration of Winter Solstice - to which they think they invented, because again they have no connection with reality - and if you don't celebrate it their way you are against them, you want them dead and they have to fight back.
Winter Solstice is one of the most ancient holidays from the times when people worshiped trees, so when Winter Solstice came they knew that in few months their beloved trees would "come to life" again, so they would decorate them. One of everyday customs that still survived to this day from tree worshiping days is when people knock on wood to remove the evil eye.
People came from trees. There's a religion that says so.
