I was once asked completely unexpectedly to say praise at the dinner table. I can so relate to that scene.
Lol. When I was about 8, I spent a Christmas with my dad's side of the family -- mostly staunch Catholics. I was asked to say grace before Christmas dinner. I had no idea that it was supposed to go, "Bless us, oh Lord, for these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ, our Lord. Amen." Raised lukewarm Lutheran on my mom's side, I wasn't accustomed to praying before a meal and just made it up as I went. After rambling for I don't know how long, I said "Amen" with palpable relief. When I looked up, everyone at the table was just staring at me. Finally, my grandfather said, "Jesus Christ, you pray like a Baptist!"
Grandma was kind enough to give me props for the effort.
