I feel nothing when I learn about the death of another.
If you take the news of David Bowies death as an example. I don't care about David Bowie, I'm not going to mourn him, I'd go as far to say I'm not even upset at his death, he's lived a good life and a fairly long one. I did feel a sense of surprise when I heard about his death though because I didn't expect it.
You made a comment "He was ugly anyway." I don't think the cause of you saying that is just purely a lack of empathy, it's combined with other things like attention seeking, shallowness, things like that.
I lack empathy with the death of David Bowie, my only thoughts were wow that's surprising, I liked a lot of his music, Ricky Gervais loved David Bowie I wonder how he will react. Other than that I didn't think or feel much else. If I wanted to seek attention I could have said something really shallow and offensive about him and I wouldn't feel any emotion about it but I just don't have that desire for attention.
Plus my first thoughts weren't about if he was good looking or ugly or whatever.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
