Lets skip the labels here. Religion in all it's forms in all of human history gets humans to do stupid shit, some more than others and all that depends on geographics and point in time in history. The Tarracotta warrior era of China, that society was very religious and superstitious and very ruthless. We like to think of Asia and the Orient in the west as seemingly peaceful, but it's history is just as full of war and bloodshed as any other.
I went to a museum in Tokyo that depicted it's struggles and wars over the centuries. And like any other country, the museum painted the Japanese as the victims and the Chinese as the aggressors and they even had depictions of hell in artwork.
We are the same species no mater the label and while some societies seem more peaceful and progressive throughout time, it is never a given that it will stay that way forever, as we know in evolution and in the universe nothing lasts forever. So it isn't that all Christians are stupid, it is that currently the west is feeling a resistance to progress because Christians know they are slowly losing their former status in the world.
