Interesting.I don't understand what you mean by 'skepticism'
I call myself a skeptic,it's part of my world view and not subject to notions of appropriateness. It does not mean being a scoffer,or a truth seeker*,it simply means one who questions everything, and insists that all questions always remain open.
Thus,to me,the moral of that very old joke(in which the protagonists can be of your choice) is; "Sometimes it's in my best interest to keep my opinions/observations to myself". I mastered that idea whilst living in a Muslim country,but not in my own, where dissent will not get me arrested or(usually) physically attacked.
I tried to please or at least not offend, everyone for many years. That was less than an outstanding success; I gave up when I was 50.These days I have twice as many friends ( two),and to paraphrase "The Lady Is A Tramp" --"he never bothers with people he hates"
I think of my beloved gf whenever I hear this song.
