The first two-thirds of the movie is Mahoney getting shot down by experts who tell him that the story is a pile of shit. He goes home and sulks and then thinks that it just CAN'T BE TRUE and sets out again to find someone ( anyone) who will tell him it is real. Finally, he finds Rohl who makes up the last third of the movie and triumphantly lays out his new chronology and voila, the exodus becomes real but only because of Rohl's bullshit.
And, what is that bullshit? Pushing Egyptian history ahead 350 years into the Iron age.
