It's complicated. People who really believe and believe that belief is enough are not afraid. Fortunately, if they are wrong all that waits is oblivion and they won't know it.

I don't know how afraid I will be to die until it happens. I'm afraid of pain, but that's not the same thing. In the abstract, oblivion isn't terrifying, and hell is too unlikely to be frightening.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
