You can bet if the God character had told Americans to engage in a genocide they would have killed everyone without a second thought or the slightest hesitation. One of our favorite activities during WWII was burning people alive. The Nazis were wimps, which is why they lost the war.
They lost the war because they picked a fight with everyone at once. They had rather weak allies in their own little group and decided to take on not only the Russians and Americans but also the British who could mobilise the resources of their empire and still had the most powerful navy in the world. After lightening war only got them so far they were stuck in a war of attrition that they couldn't possibly win.
