Except that the US got attacked by the Japanese and excpept that it was Hitler declaring war on the USA on dec 11. Not the other way round. Maybe a formality, but the only war Hitler formally declared ever.
The prospect of the Germans overrunning Russia is ludicrous. Even in 1941, when they didn't face any Western resistance to speak of, they failed at the gates of Moscow. After having already suffered horrendous losses on their way there. They weren't in any way prepared for the Russian winter and a closer look at their equipment shows that it largely consisted of looted french, Czech and british trucks. They had nothing against the Russian T34, which is obvious when looking at the German standard tanks II, III and IV. Only the Panzer IV stood half a chance against the T34 and other Russian heavy tanks. But only one variant, the one with the long 7,5 cm gun. Very rare at the time.
