That doesn't surprise me..you are a catholic after all. You don't see the problem with polite and gentile bigotry of the "Smile to your face..stab you in the soul......" variety? I gotta tell ya, I'm not having any trouble -at all- seeing the problems with that.
Let me use some hypothetical examples to make this simpler to grasp.
I don't think many of us would have trouble making the distinction between drinking alchoholic beverages responsibly and full-blown, bottle of Jack Black a day alcoholism. The former is recreational and social; the latter destroys lives, careers, marriages, families, etc.
Now, is it possible for a person who enjoys an occasional glass of wine or pint of beer to LOVE the alcoholic who is being destroyed by drink while hating the addiction to alcohol which is destroying his or her loved one?
IOW, I don't hate alcohol. I drink it myself sometimes.
I don't hate the alcoholic who is a beloved member of my family.
But I do hate the alcoholism which is destroying my loved one and my family.
I don't hate alcohol; I hate the disordered use of alcohol that results from addiction to it.
Make sense?
Could I walk through a similar scenario with sex? Sure.
I don't hate sex. I have sex myself sometimes.
I don't hate the child pornography addict who is a beloved member of my family.
But I do hate the child pornography which destroyed my parents' marriage and my family.
I don't hate sexuality; I hate the disordered acts of sexuality called child pornography.
Similarly, what Cath-y is saying is: I don't hate the homosexual; I hate the disordered acts of homosexuality.
