Here's some logicz:
The universe is everything that exists.
So if God exists, he is part of the universe. Therefor God cannot have "created the universe", only added to it. This is why I refer to this environment as "our reality" rather than "the universe". This language also allows for the possibility of other distinct realities.
The only way around this is to say God didn't exist at one point, and created the universe with himself in it. That would be impressive, even for a god, to do something while not existing.
