I hate to say it, but it sounds like your machine is infected. I'd find that drive and save your school files while you can. Then do a clean install. (And skip 'maintenance utilities' that defrag, clean registry, etc - most of those are just scams.)
I agree - I haven't done a defrag or any of that other bullshit in many years. It simply isn't necessary on NTFS with a decent amount of memory. FAT, yes, but who uaes that on primary storage these days?
