Realizing this was key in my deconversion. I started losing faith in religion years ago. Then, I lost faith in the conversions of people I truly loved and respected. Then, I wrestled with the idea that so many people were going to Hell for basically not being born into the right family. It took me a while before I started asking myself if it was possible that maybe I was one of the ones not born into the right family. Then, I realized that merely being born into a family is not a justifiable reason to unquestioningly adopt their beliefs.
