Well, it's a parable that makes Jesus look stupid. Kind of like the story where he blows off his own mother because he's busy hanging out with his followers. It sounds like he needed the rod on his ass a few times.
In my godless, heathen home, I learned that when your momma calls for you, you go do what she says. Then you ask if she needs anything else. Then you can go back and be fawned over by your groupies.
