Japan's space agency loses contact with newly launched Hitomi satellite
The Hitomi is an x-ray/gamma ray astronomy satellite.

This really makes me appreciate how difficult it is to strap a sensitive piece of equipment on a rocket and get it to go and do what you want.  I've been watching NASA send probes up for over 40 years.  Over the years I've become disappointed at our current snails pace progress in space exploration.  I think a lot of that is apathy due to NASA making these types of launches look routine.  It's amazing to me that Voyager 1 and 2 were launched almost 39 years ago, and to this day we are still collecting cosmic ray data from them.
