When you call out a claim, they move the goal posts, it is also why the religions of Asia and the Orient call it a philosophy, when it is just as much a religion as any other. It allows the follower to cling to the past and still justify old claims even when time and science has passed it by.All of the major religions are Asian. This includes Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
In all religions, it is literal until challenged, then the word games are employed in order to adapt so they can stay alive despite the contrary.
I really hate the argument of uniqueness by any religion. The series of COSMOS with Neil deGrasse Tyson, shows even without direct links humans made the same bad guesses independently. Even with no links our species stared up into the skies and made our own deity claim images in the stars. We had independent first human myths and creation myths and flood myths. Our species had independent myths about comets as well.
