There has been a case in Germany, I think as early as in '64. Two women, mother and stepdaughter, beat the abusive husband to death with a frying pan. The court aquitted them for two reasons. One was that it couldn't determine who actually administered the fatal blow, the second one was acknowledging the abuse over a long stretch of time.
So, that's what courts are for. To hear the whole story and come to a decision. Not knowing the whole story behind this incident, doesn't allow judgment. Least of all from us, who haven't been there or at the hearing and who aren't legal professionals.
