My honest response would be that you need better judgement when choosing your boyfriends. You can't really complain shitty people for acting shitty,it's their norm. Considering the fact that you were 20 and you're pretty good looking you'd probably have had atleast 3 guys ready to treat you like a princess at that time , right? Just speculations on my part though, don't get worked up if I turn out to be wrong.
Of course in no way am I justifying what that person did to you.
Then your honest response to this woman stabbing her boyfriend should have been that you can't really complain shitty people for doing shitty things, no?
