So I finally found time to watch the premier. I rather enjoyed it. I love that Brienne is still alive and kicking ass in the TV show, and that she made it to her goal (Sansa) finally. In the books, the last we see of her is her possible death. I shouldn't compare the show and books, but with some things it is difficult not to.
As to Pod being a capable warrior, all points brought are valid. He is/was a squire, and he not only survived Blackwater, he save Tyrion's butt while he was at it, defeating a Kings Guard to do so! And Brienne has been teaching him recently.
I am satisfied with the direction the story in the north is going. Jon is dead, but his body is still hanging around in pretty good condition, so all bets are still on for his eventual fate. I am also really loving that Stannis is gone and we get more Onion Knight, as he is one of my favorite ancillary characters inthe books and the show, and I am glad for him to get a more main role. And I loved Melisandre's reveal at the end. I've had mixed feelings about her character, but if they are going to give her more depth than evangelical red priestess on a mission, that'll be really good!
I also enjoyed the reunion of Cersei and Jamie, fucked up as it is. Shen Cersei was smiling on the docks, and she realized there was a gold covered coffin on the boat, her expression was heart wrenching. He discussion about imagining what happens to the corpses of loved ones was a good look into the horror it is to be her, part of what makes her horrible.
The only part that I actually didn't get was Tyrion and Varys walking around deserted parts of Meereen discussing really private political stuff, including how unsafe it is to walk around deserted parts of Meereen....I mean, WTH? I realize it put them in a good position to quickly run and see the fleet burning, but that scene felt off, or forced, to me. But I still want to see more of them, so no more complaining! lol.
Also, not-so-good-looking version of Danny's boyfriend is starting to grow on me. He had such a nice heart to heart with Jorah, without any bitterness or dick waving. I hope this part of the story, including Danny and the kidnapping, gain some serious momentum. Being eternally suck in Meereen is a real problem here.
Anyway, I thought it was a great premier, and I'm very excited to see the next episode on Monday, when I should have time to watch it.
P.S. (Oh yeah, and Zombie Mountain!! Where the hell is that story going?)
