I look at it as a description of reality, the concept is that the ultimate form of power rules, we see it everyday, the cycles of the sun and the moon for example, enforce themselves on us, if I described life on earth as a "powerless, dependent object", then I'm describing reality: take off the sun and the moon, and earth will starve.
The concept of God is the same, but on much higher scale. Since he is the ultimate form of power, then we will subdue either forced, or willingly, just we subdue to the cycles of the sun and the moon, to the lack of oxygen in the cosmos...etc.
It only seems bigoted and hurts, when the God we worship is a human-like entity like -in my opinion- Jesus or Buddha, Zeus too.
And Islam, between all religions, does indeed say "don't try to imagine God because you won't be able to"...That's my concept anyhow
A human don't get to enslave you, after all.
