Eye for an eye was to keep the punishment from going above and beyond what had been done to you. You are absolutely right in that you don't follow the practice. That's evidenced by the fact that you're on the bandwagon for condemning all Christians for the few that hurt you. You can be as belligerent as you like, but it was genuine compassion, not pity, I was trying to show. I don't typically practice any vengeful practices at all because I'm a pacifist, but if I were, it would be justified and balanced with the crime. Your sweeping, hateful generalizations are truly a sad example of why poor Christians make angry atheists, and both, while more prevalent than we'd all like, suit stereotypes to tee. If you just want target practice go find some fundie somewhere other than here, because here we're about rational and productive discussion.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
