Notice I wasn't asking him about the possibility that a God might exist. I was specifically asking him whether he believes in one or not.
He is an atheist. He just doesn't like to identify as one. That's fine, but he's still an atheist. He can take it up with the dictionary if he has a problem with that.
What's this "one" god stuff? It's not like I'm selecting from a group of gods and deciding whether I believe in them or not. I do not know what the word "god" means to you. I can imagine some definitions of "god" which I would say must certainly exist, some which certainly cannot exist, and some about which I'd be unsure.
I think I'm making a pretty reasonable request. You're asking if something exists. I want you to tell me what the thing is so I can answer your question. I'm not sure why you'd have a problem with that.
